Katharine Hepburn’s Brownie Recipe, just like the lady herself, is classically fabulous. This brownie recipe will become your new go-to.

Before we get to her chocolate, nut-filled brownies, can we just take a moment to admire the woman? I adore her. There wasn’t another woman who could pull off trousers or that sassy attitude like she could.

Also, if I’m being completely honest, my boyfriend and I often walk around imitating her fabulous accent. “Get in the CAUR, Max!” It’s highly entertaining and gets plenty of odds looks. A win-win.

I also highly recommend substituting the walnuts for pecans if you’re feeling adventurous. That’s the Texan in me….always go for pecans over any other nut.

Here it is, Katharine Hepburn's very own brownie recipe. Rich and chocolatey, with walnuts for crunch!

  • 1 stick butter unsalted
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Pre-heat oven to 325°F. Melt together the butter and 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate and then take the saucepan off the heat.

  2. Stir in 1 cup sugar, add 2 eggs and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and beat the mixture well.

  3. Stir in the flour and salt. Now, stir in your chopped walnuts.

  4. Bake the brownies in a buttered and floured 8-inch-square pan at 325°F for about 40 minutes.
